Get Together for Health and Wellbeing

Artwork is by Kev Munday – Part of the Stand Together exhibition

Thursday 12 April 2018 11am-6pm we are having a Get Together for Health and Wellbeing. This is part of Stand Together for Health week at Solent Showcase Gallery, just off Southampton’s Guildhall Square next to Artisan Cafe.

Drop in during the day, or join us for group activities at 1pm and 4pm:

  • Throughout the day help us create a large scale collaborative artwork  showing How We Make a Healthy Southampton
  • 1pm Knit One Change One – join our knitting circle (all welcome including non-knitters) and discuss together how wool crafts can change our health, and have a go on a spinning wheel;
  • 4pm Gather Together to celebrate the day, listen to some short talks on health and community, and join in with a Singing for Wellbeing session with choir leader Maggie O’Connor.

Throughout the day, we will also be exploring health inequalities in our city. We will display health-themed artwork by young people, and explore questions about their health needs in an ever changing world.

You can make a bird to add to our display using paper folding techniques (we’ll show you how). Bring along a leaflet of something that has health or community significance to you, and we’ll help you transform it into a bird.

We will be showing some short films throughout the day, including James Paddock’s Lost Person film, which explores depression and being housebound.

Bring friends, grannies, children, anyone. Families can also join the Bin It In the Bin trail, spotting colourful artworks around town by Showcase gallery resident artist Kev Munday. And receive a prize at the end!

This is part of Rebecca Kinge’s takeover of the gallery 9-13 April. If you can’t make 12th, you can pop in at other times during the week to contribute to the health takeover. Partners include Healthwatch Southampton, Southampton Art in Health Forum and many others.
