Collective action

Happy Autumn!

Our Breathing Spaces project is coming to an end, and we have our final Clean Air Cafe on Saturday 30 November. We’ll be sharing the learning from the project, celebrating the community activity that has been happening and having a think about the future. More details on our Breathing Spaces website.

Interested in the connections between creativity and health? You can join the Southampton Art in Health Forum, which is run jointly by Southampton Collective‘s Rebecca Kinge and SoCo Music Project‘s Matt Salvage. We were delighted that our Umbrella Arts Festival on 23 March 2019 was shortlisted for a Healthwatch England award for helping more people have their say about health services. We will be planning a forum event for the new year very soon, and working out ways to resource the forum into the future. For more details on the forum and the people involved, check out the Southampton and Hampshire Arts in Health Network website. Contact Rebecca@socollective.org.uk if you wish to be added to the mailing list for this Forum.

You can join our Southampton City Vision Facebook group, which has been set up by people involved in the Southampton Collective. The aim is to try and encourage people to share their views with each other on the future of the city and ways to get involved. In particular, the group focuses on how the city develops through its Local Plan process. More here on our previous Our City: Our Vision blog which sets out some of the context for community involvement.

A project that we have been developing, and is at its earliest exploratory stages, is our new Health Model Village. This is a resource that can be taken out into the community to get people talking about what is available in Southampton which helps people with their health. It can shine a light on community spaces and places that aren’t traditional health venues, but support people through their ups and downs. People can make a model of their favourite places to add to the village. We kick- started the interactive model at Zoielogic Dance Theatre’s Headfunk event in October, in partnership with Healthwatch Southampton. We will next be at the Unpacking Social Enterprise event on 21 November, using the model village to showcase community businesses in the city. Join us there if you can.

Southampton Health Model Village: Community making event, Zoielogic’s Headfunk 9 Oct 19.

Hope you are having a good Autumn! Remember to connect with us via Facebook and Twitter, tell us your news and views about healthy, sustainable city.
