We are very pleased to have been awarded Community Chest funding by Southampton City Council! This will be used to develop The Southampton Collective as an economically viable, resilient, collaborative community development organisation, which complements the work that others are doing in the city. This includes the outcomes of the council’s consultation on the future of community development.
We encourage more sustainable, creative and healthy communities in Southampton by providing a community development role, accountable body service and associated support for other projects and groups in the city that have complementary aims. Our projects include:
- Creative Places Southampton which supports the local, creative, social economy and encourages city pride in our independent businesses and social enterprises.
- Our sustainability projects promote social, economic and environmental initiatives that respond to climate change challenges and the health need for clean air in Southampton.
- Riverfest fosters community cohesion and health and wellbeing associated with riverside access.
- Through TEDx Southampton we progress city pride and better knowledge of the ‘ideas worth spreading’ that come from Southampton people.
The CIC’s Directors include qualified community development practitioners and sustainability professionals. We use different ways of engaging Southampton residents, such as community events, public art and social media. Widening reach and being inclusive and fair are central to our work.
