Southampton Climate Action Network (SoCAN)

The Southampton Collective is really excited to be supporting the Southampton Climate Action Network, which has grown over the past three years from a community desire for a co-ordinated network for all involved in Climate Action in Southampton.

SoCAN was awarded funding in 2023 through a Southampton University Participatory Research Programme which had the focus of growing the network and using Doughnut Economics as a tool to frame workshops and conversations with business and municipal communities. The Southampton Collective has held the funding, which has provided the necessary legal and administrative requirements for the funds and has also provided expertise in co-creation and production as well as participative community practices.

Whilst the research project has now come to a close, with thanks to an anonymous donor and the goodwill of SoCAN’s Steering Group, we are able to continue to develop SoCAN, and are applying for significant funding for the next stages. If you would like to read more about what SoCAN have achieved over the last few years, please see this BLOG here. Sign up for more regular updates on the work of SoCAN here: www.sotoncan.org.uk

An important component of SoCAN is The Southampton Sustainability Directory, a community website where groups and organisations who are involved in climate action, are listed. From recycling to bicycling, parks to playgroups, the directory provides a valuable resource for anyone interested in getting involved in climate action. Please do let them know if there are any listings you think should be added.

The Southampton Collective is proud to be supporting SoCAN to flourish and we will continue to use our skills and expertise to help the group make positive change in our city, working together for a sustainable, thriving city.
